Chane opens new expansion of Geulhaven terminal in Rotterdam

Phase Two of Chane Terminal Geulhaven adds 75,000 cbm of storage capacity

Chane Terminal Geulhaven is proud to open a new expansion in September 2024. Labeled “Phase Two”, the expansion adds 75,000 cbm of storage capacity. The terminal, located in the port of Rotterdam, now boasts a total capacity of 150,000 cbm. Phase Two focuses mainly on feedstocks for biofuels. The energy-efficient terminal was prepared for operation by a multidisciplinary team in just nine months.

In December 2023, the Chane Terminal Geulhaven (CTGE) team began optimizing the terminal. It was officially opened on 25 September 2024. The terminal meets the highest safety standards: “Safety is our highest priority, so we’re proud of the excellent safety performance we’ve achieved at this terminal”, says Wouter Verbeek, Business Unit Director at Chane. The terminal has also been optimized in terms of energy consumption, with an energy-efficient heating system and power consumption monitoring system.

By focusing on the storage of biofuels, this new terminal expansion gives Chane the opportunity to help customers take a step forward in the energy transition. Chane has years of experience in storing these more sustainable fuels, both in the Netherlands and internationally.

“The construction and commissioning phases for this project have been completed without any major incidents. Now, we’re ready for operation”, Verbeek continues, adding: “A wonderful achievement from our entire team.”
