In 2022, Chane began exploring a digital solution to make truck operations faster and more efficient at their terminals. Early in 2024, development of the Truck Portal began, and its implementation started in October 2024 at Chane Terminal Botlek. This new portal lets transporters book time slots and submit necessary documents in advance, making administrative processes smoother upon arrival.
The portal also allows customers to see their scheduled and current truck operations in real time. By centralizing all documentation, Chane makes processes more transparent and efficient for its customers. The Truck Portal’s development, led by Product Owner Charlie Visser and built with an external supplier, followed the Scrum methodology. By working closely with customers, transporters, and employees through regular testing, Chane ensures the portal meets user needs. This collaborative development process enables Chane to better serve customers by reducing delays and addressing documentation issues proactively.
“Collaborating closely with our supplier, we involved customers and employees throughout the development sprints. Testing every four weeks allowed us to fine-tune each delivery stage, and we’re proud of the final product that will greatly support both our truck customers and terminal operations”, Charlie explains.
A customer using the Truck Portal: “Our experience with the new Truck Portal has been extremely positive. The interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for us and our carriers to find the needed information quickly. We especially appreciate that the Chane team was receptive to our feedback during development and even implemented several of our suggestions. This responsiveness makes us feel heard and valued, showing Chane’s commitment to an optimal user experience.”
Marc Hordijk, Manager Process Excellence & Innovation: “By listening to our customers and analyzing data, we identified delays primarily caused by incomplete or incorrect truck documentation. Now, we’re excited to serve our customers even faster and more efficiently.”
